Student SurveyThe OCDSB is committed to creating inclusive, safe and caring environments. As part of this commitment and Ministry direction and in support of student well-being, our schools conduct school climate surveys every two years. This year the OCDSB conducted a School Climate Survey for Students. in the spring of 2017.
The purpose of a school climate survey is to better understand students’ perceptions about bullying, safety at school, and student engagement. We know that when students feel safe and welcomed at school that they are more likely to achieve at higher levels and have a stronger sense of well-being.
The “OurSCHOOL” survey developed by The Learning Bar is used across our District. It is voluntary, confidential, and takes approximately thirty to forty minutes to complete. Students are asked to answer questions related to school climate and safety, bullying, perception of school, sense of belonging, and their background, including age, gender, and ethnicity. The data from this survey will be used to help school staff develop strategies to prevent bullying and to promote safe and inclusive schools.
The School Climate Survey – “OurSCHOOL” (formerly known as TTFM) is an online survey tool that the district uses to collect anonymous and reliable data about school climate, bullying, school safety and student engagement. The school climate survey was first implemented during the 2012-13 school year for students, and repeated again in 2013-14, 2014-2015, and 2016-2017.
In 2013-14 the Parent Survey was introduced and was repeated in 2015-16.  Results are used by schools to give Parents/ Guardians and Students a voice so they are able to share their ideas, thoughts or concerns about their school. Input provided helps make their school safe and more welcoming.
Schools are using the School Climate Survey results, along with other sources of data, to help make decisions around improving school climates as part of the ongoing work to create accepting schools in which everyone belongs.  The district reports are an aggregate of all school results from the measures within the surveys.  Results are available for the most recent administrations of the elementary student survey, secondary student survey, & parent survey. The district data is being used for information purposes and to assist schools to situate their school results relative to the district.
