The OCDSB is reviewing our Safe Schools and Code of Conduct policies. We need your input to keep our schools safe and to ensure all students have a comfortable learning environment.

Parent / Guardian Consultation

Monday, March 23rd, 2020

Location: Earl of March Secondary School (Cafeteria) - 4 The Parkway, Kanata
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

**Translation support will be available in Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi.


In November 2019, the OCDSB approved a consultation plan to address the Safe Schools and School District Code of Conduct Policies.

The Project Plan for this Consultation is as follows:

Phase One

November 2019 to March 2020

Engage with stakeholder groups including students, parents/guardians/caregivers, and school staff to gather input on the draft policy creation. Engagement activities include:

  • November 2019 to March 2020 – Student focus group sessions in 12 schools (focus groups included school co-presidents and senators, and members of the LGBTQLS+ school groups);
  • November 2019 – Principal and Vice-Principal facilitated discussion
  • December 2019 to January 2020 – Staff/Federation facilitated discussion (Delayed)
  • January 2020 – Community partner facilitated discussion (Delayed)
  • March 2020 – Parent/Guardian facilitated discussions

April 2020 to September 2020

This is the policy revision stage. Most of the work will be internal and will involve reflection on the feedback received.

Phase Two

September to October 2020

Draft policies will be shared with participants of phase one, including students, parents/guardians, and community partner leads.

November 2020

Presentation of the revised policies and recommendation for approval of policy revision for Safe Schools and School District Code of Conduct.

In addition to the in-person sessions, the OCDSB will also have an online opportunity for the public to offer feedback through ThoughtExchange. The ThoughtExchange survey will be available as of March 23rd, 2020.
