How do I participate in Thoughtexchange in another language?

There are 2 ways to Participate in another language:

  1. To Participate in English, French or Spanish, you can do so by changing the language settings in your browser. See the instructions below.
  2. To participate in any other language, use the SMS text feature.

Text the name of your language or “Hello” in that language to 728-55 and enter the code for the conversation that is right for you: 

  • Elementary Parent - Use this code 203288536
  • Secondary Parent - Use this code 320705614 
  • Community Member - Use this code 135420334
  • Students - Check your OCDSB email account
  • Staff - Check your OCDSB email account or find more information in the Staff Portal.

How to Change the Language Setting in Your Browser

Check out the steps below to see how to change your language settings for all supported browsers. Please note that these steps are accurate as of when this article was published - if you find any inconsistencies in this article or need further assistance, please let us know. Mobile Devices

For most mobile devices, your browser preferences are set according to the primary language of the operating system.

Note: changing these settings will change the language of your entire device, not just your browser! Be sure you can find your way back to change it again if necessary!

Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer

  • Click Settings.
  • Open Regions & Language.
  • Click Add a language.
  • Scroll through the list and select the language you want to add.
    Note: English, French, and Spanish are supported at this time.
  • Click Add.
  • Use the Move up button to move the language to the top of the list.
  • Restart Microsoft Edge/Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

Chrome

  • Click the three-dot menu ⠇ at the top-right corner of the browser window.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Advanced to expand the Advanced settings.
  • Scroll down to Languages and click to expand the languages list.
  • Click Add languages and select your desired language.
    Note: English, French, and Spanish are supported at this time.
  • Click next to the added language and select Move to the top to move it to the top of the list.

Firefox

  • Click Firefox
  • Preferences.
  • In General, scroll down to the Language and Appearance section.
  • Click on the Choose... button next to Choose your preferred language for displaying pages.
  • In the Languages dialog box that opens, click on the drop-down menu labeled Select a language to add.
  • Scroll through the language list and select the language of your choice.
    Note: English, French, and Spanish are supported at this time.
  • Click Add to add it to the list of languages.
  • Use the Move Up button to move it to the top of the list.

Safari

In Safari for macOS, the language is specified in the system language preferences.

Note: this will change the language of your entire user interface, not just your browser language preferences! Be sure you can find your way back to change it again if necessary!

  • Click the Apple symbol () in the top-left corner of the Toolbar.
  • Click System Preferences.
  • Click Language & Region.
  • Click the plus symbol (+) below Preferred languages.
  • Add your preferred language.
    Note: English, French, and Spanish are supported at this time.
  • When prompted, select the option to use the added language as your primary language.
