2019 Student Survey

The OCDSB is committed to creating inclusive, safe and caring environments. As part of this commitment and Ministry direction and in support of student well-being, our schools conduct school climate surveys every two years. The OCDSB conducted a School Climate Survey for Students in the spring of 2019. The purpose of a school climate survey is to better understand students’ perceptions about bullying, safety at school, and parent engagement. We know that when students feel safe and welcomed at school that they are more likely to achieve at higher levels and have a stronger sense of well-being. We thank you for taking your valuable time to share your ideas with us.

The “Our SCHOOL” survey developed by The Learning Bar is used across our District. All students from Grades 4-12 were invited to complete the survey in each school. It is voluntary, confidential, and takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes to complete.  The data from this survey will be used to help school staff develop strategies to prevent bullying and to promote safe and inclusive schools.

Background

The School Climate Survey – “Our SCHOOL” (formerly known as TTFM) is an online survey tool that the District uses to collect anonymous and reliable data about school climate, bullying, school safety, parents and students engagement. The school climate survey was first implemented during the 2012-2013 school year for students and repeated again in 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018.

In 2013-2014 the Parent Survey was introduced, and repeated in 2015-2016 and again in 2017-2018. This year, there was a common district-wide Student Survey and was conducted between April 23rd and May 10th. Results are used by schools to give Students a voice so they are able to share their ideas, thoughts or concerns about their school. Input provided helps make their school safe and more welcoming.

Schools are using the School Climate Survey results, along with other sources of data, to help make decisions around improving school climate as part of the ongoing work to create accepting schools in which everyone belongs.  The district reports are an aggregate of all school results from the measures within the surveys.  Results are available for the most recent administrations of the elementary student survey, secondary student survey, & parent survey. The district data is being used for information purposes and to assist schools to situate their school results relative to the district.
