Community Use of Schools

Please be advised that OCDSB facilities will remain unavailable for community use for the remainder of this school year - the end of June 2021. This has been a difficult decision but at this time we need to ensure the safety of the students, staff and users of our schools.

We understand the role you play in the community and the clients you serve, however with all the parameters in place during this unprecedented time, the OCDSB cannot offer you the level of support required to ensure distancing and safety.

At this time our booking software will remain closed for permit requests for the 2020-2021 school year.

With protocols in place around public health guidelines our fields will be available in the Spring. A further email will be sent out around mid-February when field bookings can be requested.

Decisions around any summer use will be made in early April and notification will be sent out.

Schools are hubs of the community and a convenient venue for a host of recreational and group activities. School facilities provide a place to come together, volunteer, access community programs, become physically active and build strong and healthy communities.

In partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Parent & Community Engagement Office of the Inclusive Education Branch, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board makes school space more affordable and accessible in support of healthy, active lifestyles and helping to build vital communities that offer the residents within the District a higher quality of life.

If your association, business or, not-for-profit organization is looking for affordable, flexible meeting options or recreational space, we have plenty of choices. Available from 6pm10pm on weeknights and 8am - 6pm on Saturday and Sunday throughout the school year, our schools offer classrooms, gymnasiums, auditoriums, cafeterias, meeting spaces, sports fields and ball diamonds that are ideal for small and medium gatherings as well as recreational activities. Rates are reasonable and parking is free.

To ensure fair and equitable access to District facilities, community groups seeking the use of school facilities must obtain a permit. Returning clients are given first priority to the space they permitted in the previous year. Upon completion of school and returning client requests, space may be available to community groups on a first come, first serve basis. This is dependent upon facility availability, custodial staff and/or other District approved personnel. Applicable fees will apply according to the approved user fee schedule.

**  On October 17, Cannabis will be legalized in Canada. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is currently reviewing its policies to address this change.   The OCDSB wishes to advise all CUS permit holders that recreational cannabis possession and/or use is not, and will not be permitted on any OCDSB property.  Thank you for your cooperation.
