OCDSB D. Aubrey Moodie Award for Highest Academic Average

Sheel AyachiThe top scholar at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board for the 2019-2020 school year is Sheel Ayachi. 


He was presented with the D.Aubrey Moodie Award at the Board meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Ayachi, who attended the International Baccalaureate program at Colonel By Secondary School, graduated with the highest average in the district of 98.86%. 


During his time at Colonel By, Ayachi was an exemplary student. He was active on the student council executive, head of Club Summit, was a part of the DECA and Tutoring Clubs, founder of the Stress Relief Through the Arts Club, was a member of the curling team, and a Link Leader.  


In addition, he was an active volunteer and for the past year, having served at the information desk at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Ayachi also volunteers with the Canadian Cancer Society.


He is currently enrolled in McMaster University’s Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Science Coop Program. He placed 7th in Medical Innovation at the HOSA Spring Leadership Conference while at Colonel By, won the University of Ottawa General Science Competition, and completed a summer coop writing a research paper with a graduate student at Dalhousie University. These experiences and Ayachi’s classes shaped his intentions of pursuing graduate studies and a career in bioengineering research.
