Fire at MacSkimming Outdoor Education Centre

Fire at MacSkimming Outdoor Education Centre

In the afternoon of Friday, January 29, an alarm alerted OCDSB staff to an issue at MacSkimming Outdoor Education Centre.

A fire was detected and authorities were contacted. The Ottawa Fire Services responded immediately.

One classroom building was affected. This building is a wooden structure and came down due to the fire.

The building was empty at the time and no injuries were reported.

The OCDSB is working closely with the Ottawa Fire Services to investigate the cause of the fire. We would like to thank firefighters for their quick response and efforts to respond in a difficult area to access.

First established in 1967, MacSkimming Outdoor Education Centre is a 425-acre outdoor classroom on the east side of the City of Ottawa. The primary focus of this OCDSB educational facility is to provide active inquiry-based learning opportunities and curriculum-based experiences to elementary and secondary students, to explore, appreciate and learn about the Ontario Curriculum in a beautiful natural biodiverse setting.
