The OCDSB is pleased to partner with Youth Ottawa on the Active Citizenship Initiative, which invites students to get involved and take action on local community issues.

Youth Ottawa is working with local non-profit organizations, grassroots groups, and Ottawa City Councillors to create Community Challenge videos on an Ottawa-based issue of their choice. Students taking part in the Active Citizenship Initiative in their Civics class will review the videos and choose which issue they want to address with their action project.

This program, supported by the OCDSB Experiential Learning department, aims to engage students through Community Challenges related to issues such as climate change, food insecurity, mental health, homelessness, 2SLBGTQ+ rights and more. It also includes online lesson plans, resources and support videos for educators.

The Active Citizenship Initiative was formerly known as DILA (Day of Information for a Lifetime of Action). Last year, 44 classes at 14 OCDSB high schools participated in pilot programs for the Initiative.

Visit the Youth Ottawa website to find out more about the program, watch the Community Challenges, and learn about ways to get involved.
