Technology and Trades Event: A Pathway for all Students

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board hosted its second annual Technology and Trades Event: A Pathway for all Students, a virtual post-secondary education opportunities event for Grade 7-12 students and their families. This virtual event, held on February 24, 2022, from 3:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., was a great opportunity for students and parents & guardians to explore career pathways in the skilled trades and technology sectors.

This virtual conference included exciting presenters and a variety of booth exhibitors, all sharing career pathways in the skilled trades and technology. The event included Paul Lafrance (HGTV - Deck Guy) and Promise Lafrance who shared their own experiences and successes in a career in the skilled trades. Students requiring workplace accommodations learned about workplace entry options by experienced community partners.

Event Details

This event was organized using an online platform called vFAIRS that allows participants to visit a plenary hall, exhibitors’ hall and seminar rooms, as they would if this were in-person. They could choose sessions in advance, and log in to find the information and hear the stories that they were looking for. The structure allowed them to personalize their experience.
