Kars Kindness

Thursday, March 8, 2018

Tuesday, March 06, 2018 - The 2018, Education Foundation of Ottawa “Toonie Tuesday” fundraising goal was $50,000. All funds raised from this annual, one day event will go directly to the Students in Crisis Emergency Fund. This fund is available to help students with basics needs including food, clothing and medical supplies.

Six-hundred and sixty-seven students attend Kars on the Rideau Public School.  If you do the math - and every Kars on the Rideau Public School student chose to donate one toonie that would be an amazing grand total of 1, 334 dollars.  That’s not what happened.

The students decided to make the Education Foundation of Ottawa (EFO) their “Charity of Choice” this school year.  On Thursday, the Kars Student Council will present the EFO with a cheque worth $5,000 – that is 10% of the entire campaign objective – from one school!

The students hope to keep raising funds for EFO throughout the remainder of the school year.  A Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Thursday, March 8, 2018 between 11:15 a.m -11:45 a.m.

In addition, Kindness Canada will recognize Kars on the Rideau Public School for it’s commitment to joining the Kindness Revolution. The school recently held a Kindness Campaign designed to showcase how one act of kindness builds good will and creates an atmosphere of respect and collaboration.  And the accolades keep coming…. the North Gower Outreach Food Bank Program will acknowledge the school community for its generous contributions during their annual food drive.

These presentations will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the school.   The event will conclude with the cheque presentation.  The school is located at 6680 Dorack Drive in Kars.

School Principal Rick Haggar says, “As part of our Community of Character initiative, staff and students support a positive and caring atmosphere at the school. We ensure character development is embedded in all we do including, reaching out to those in need in our community and beyond.”
