Rainbow Bridges Film Festival - November 19th
Youth Ottawa and the OCDSB were proud to present the online Rainbow Bridges Film Festival on November 19th. We showcased the student films from last year’s Rainbow Bridges participants, and had a few surprises! The film festival was streamed on the OCDSB Youtube Channel and can be found at the link below.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us in celebrating this amazing program.  The Rainbow Bridges program – now fully digital – remains focused on its for-youth-by-youth model, where secondary students work alongside GSA’s and equity clubs (gay-straight alliance or gender and sexuality alliance) to create short films aimed at welcoming incoming grade 9 students who will be entering high school.

The goal of the event was to raise awareness for the resources available to schools, teachers and students as it pertains to 2SLGBTQ+ and equity work within the OCDSB. Our new Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap is a critical part of this work. It requires us to focus on how we learn and work together, to recognize the inherent dignity and worth of each person, and to ensure that every student’s right to education is respected and realized.

Save the Date
Save the date for our next film festival, being held on Thursday, February 11th at 7pm. Students and GSAs interested in contributing films can contact Rainbow Bridges coordinator Jude Ashburn at [email protected].

Feedback from Students:

"I think it was such a great chance for people to learn and to get rid of their bias on topics like this. Maybe a bit more “advertising” around the school can be better, I feel there are still a large amount of ESL students who need some help but have no access to them. Thank you for this chance and it was meaningful!"

"Brave, articulate & awesome!"

"All videos were amazing and I congratulate all of the filmmakers for their amazing work on these projects. Great to see the OCDSB and Youth Ottawa collaborate on this project."
