Are you looking for a rewarding job with the opportunity to advance in your career?

Come join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Our Early Childhood Educators and Early Learning Assistants are a vital part of our kindergarten and early learning teams.

At the OCDSB, Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) work closely with the kindergarten teacher to provide students with a fun and enriching education, focused on play-based learning. RECEs may also have the opportunity to lead an extended day program before or after school at some locations. Early Learning Assistants (ELA) support childcare for students after school (including professional activity day and school break periods).

The OCDSB is the largest school board in the region and one of the largest childcare providers. This means we are able to offer ECEs and ELAs a wide range of benefits and opportunities to advance your career in schools across Ottawa. These include:

  • Competitive salary and benefits: We offer both ELAs and RECEs a competitive salary. Full-time employees also receive a robust family and employee assistance program, and a generous benefits and sick leave package, including health insurance, access to a pension plan, and paid time off.
  • Job stability: Working for a school board often comes with a sense of job security, especially in the public education sector. The OCDSB places high value on early childhood education, making RECE and ELA positions in high demand. RECEs are part of a union, which can provide additional protection and representation.
  • Professional development, networking and career growth: The OCDSB offers ongoing professional development for their staff, including RECEs and ELAs. This means you can access training, workshops, and courses to enhance your skills and knowledge. You will also get the chance to connect with other professionals in the education field. This networking can lead to personal and career growth.
  • Structured schedule and work-life balance: Working for the OCDSB, you’ll follow a structured school calendar, providing regular breaks through the year. You'll also have the benefit of holidays and summers off, allowing for a better work-life balance.

Most important of all, as a RECE or ELA you will play a crucial role in shaping young children's development. You'll have the opportunity to make a positive impact on children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth during their crucial early years.
