A Tragic Loss for our Community

With great sorrow, we share news of the passing of a student from Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School.  The student was injured on May 2, 2024 and did not recover from their injuries. Out of  respect for the privacy of the family, the name of the student is not being shared at this time.

This is tragic news for the family and school community.  The OCDSB Tragic Events Response Team was at the school on Thursday and Friday and will continue to be on site in the week ahead. This team provides assistance to school staff and students and acts as a resource for the school community as needed. Families looking for resources are encouraged to visit the website kidsgrief.ca or you can visit our website here for further information.

There is a police investigation underway and the police have reported that charges have been laid against an adult male, who is not a student at the school.  We continue to cooperate with the police on their investigation and we encourage everyone to refrain from engaging in speculation and rumors regarding the incident.

We have reached out to the family to extend our deepest condolences.  They have expressed appreciation for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the school community. At this time of loss, they have requested privacy.

Our priority is to respect the privacy of the family, and to allow our students and staff time to navigate their own grief with dignity and respect.  We respectfully request that the media stay off of school property and refrain from approaching students and staff. Any media inquiries should be directed to the OCDSB Communications Department.

Thank you.
