Pleasant Park Public School is the proud recipient of a brand new Outdoor Classroom complete with wooden log seating, chalkboard and a small stage. Their School Council partnered with Desjardins Ontario Credit Union and the OCDSB to launch the learning area, which was completed in time to welcome students back to school in September 2023.
This project was envisioned by the School Council and took three years to plan, fundraise, and install. The project was supported by parent and community donations to a fundraising campaign, along with funding from the School Council. Pleasant Park Public School was also selected for a $15,000 grant from the Working Together project by Desjardins Ontario Credit Union, which offers organizations in Ontario the opportunity to develop projects that will have positive impacts on their communities, as well as a $5,000 Community Environmental Projects Grant from the City of Ottawa, and a $1,000 grant from Walmart Canada.
The OCDSB’s Facilities department matched the school’s fundraising dollars with a $25,000 contribution and provided project coordination support. This project was an almost $70,000 capital improvement to the school.
