GIFTED PROGRAM AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL

Supporting Gifted Learners in Grades 9-12

  • Students moving to the grade 9 gifted program from an OCDSB grade 8 specialized gifted class may transition with no further assessment or referral required.
  • All secondary age students who meet the OCDSB’s identification of giftedness are eligible to apply for the gifted secondary credit program. Current psychological data (see Required Documentation section below) is required for students applying to the gifted program from a Regular classroom placement, including for students who have previously been in the Gifted Program and have returned to a regular classroom.
  • Once in the Gifted Program, no further assessments are required to stay in the program each subsequent school year as long as the student remains in the program without interruption.

OCDSB students as well as external candidates wishing to apply to the Gifted Secondary Program may do so in a variety of ways:

  • Contact the Student Services Department or Learning Support Teacher at your catchment school (the OCDSB school closest to your home for the grade you are presently in - as identified via the OCDSB School Locator). Your catchment school can assist you through the referral process by providing you with more information including which site is your designated gifted secondary site.
  • If you are already aware of your designated gifted secondary site, you may also apply directly to your prospective gifted site and will need to provide proof of address in advance of submitting your referral using the contact details below:
