OCDSB students, staff, and alumni have been recognized through awards and prize-winning efforts in competitions. Here are just a few of the success stories we’re celebrating:
Global Community Alliance Gala
On February 24th, several OCDSB students and staff were recognized at the Global Community Alliance Gala in recognition of Black History Month.
The Youth Achievement Awards celebrate students who demonstrate leadership abilities, exemplify appropriate behaviour and values in their school community, and participate in community activities or global outreach initiatives. This year’s recipients were:
- Amy Z. (Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School)
- Joud H. (Gloucester High School)
- Malaika Kamanzi, Student Trustee (Colonel By Secondary School)
- Sami G. (Lisgar Collegiate Institute)
In addition, Fielding Drive Public School Vice Principal Nicole Phillips was recognized with the Professional Achievement Award, and OCDSB Student Success Coordinator Nabil Ahmed received the Community Builder Award.
Juno Awards
Lisgar Collegiate Institute is proud to celebrate alumni Bryan Cheng (Class of 2015) and Silvie Cheng (Class of 2009) on their recent Juno Award nominations! Bryan and Silvie’s collaboration as Cheng2 Duo is nominated for Classical Album of the Year in the Small Ensemble category for their album, Portrait. This year’s Juno Awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Vancouver on March 24, 2024.
