School Councils can allocate a percentage of their funds to support The Education Foundation of Ottawa. By doing so, they contribute to fostering community and school partnerships, increasing student and community engagement, and positively impacting student achievement.

The mission of The Education Foundation of Ottawa is to reduce economic barriers to student well-being and learning within the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. We achieve this by offering financial support to OCDSB students, enabling them to access essential resources such as clothing, school supplies, vision care, and opportunities for experiential learning. Our ability to fulfill over 200 requests for support each month relies on the generosity of our community and granting organizations.

Daily requests for support, often focused on food security, are submitted by Principals, Vice-Principals, and School Social Workers. It is disheartening to acknowledge that, in our city, some children cannot attend school due to a lack of food for lunch or snacks.

A modest donation of $25 can give a student a week's worth of snacks at school. A $50 donation can purchase warm winter boots, while $100 covers the cost of a new snowsuit, mittens, and a hat. OCDSB staff can contribute through payroll deduction, with even a $5/pay donation making a meaningful impact over a year. These contributions enable students to participate in skill-building activities that can be life-changing.

Our signature fundraiser, Toonie Tuesday, takes place on the last Tuesday in February. We invite students, staff, councils, and members of the Ottawa community to donate $2 or more to support our crucial work. We believe in providing all students with what they deserve, not just what they can afford. To learn more, please visit the Education Foundation of Ottawa website.
