eLearning

eLearning

eLearning is a District program that is offered asynchronously, meaning students don’t have to login at the same time each day to do their work.  These classes are taught online by a teacher in the OCDSB or by a teacher in one of our partner Districts in Ontario.  As with face to face classes, there are a maximum number of students who can register in each class and attendance is required in order to remain in the class and to be successful.  Students are required to login at least once per week (and preferably more) into the Virtual Learning Environment and should plan on working at least the same amount of time they would in a face-to-face class.  Unlike a traditional correspondence course, an eLearning is taught by a teacher who students can interact with regularly and students are required to keep up with their work on a regular basis in order to be successful.

Who to contact:

  • Students who are registered in an OCDSB school should meet with their Guidance Counselor in order to discuss their options for eLearning.
  • All other students who are registered with another publicly-funded school board in Ontario will need to contact their guidance counselor in order to discuss their options for eLearning
  • Students who are not registered in an OCDSB school or another publicly-funded school board in Ontario should contact the OCDSB Admissions Department at 613-596-8731 or [email protected].

Remote Learning

Remote learning will not be the same as in-person learning, but it will be scheduled in a predictable manner and involve daily learning. Using technology, students will learn from home through a combination of live online instruction (synchronous/"live" instruction) and posted instruction/learning activities and materials. Remote Learning will involve a similar amount of time to what students would usually spend in the classroom learning and doing independent work. Student assessment and evaluation will be ongoing and student attendance/participation will be tracked. The expectation of students engaging in remote learning will be that they are online and present.  For more information please go to: https://ocvsecondary.ocdsb.ca.
