School Council Spotlight: Queen Mary Street Public School Community Partnership Event

Queen Mary Street Public School Gymnasium with attendees at their Community Partnership Event.

Queen Mary Street Public School hosted a successful Community Partnership Event, offering families the chance to learn about local programs and services. This event was supported by the School Council’s Parent Reaching Out (PRO) Grant and presented in partnership with the OCDSB’s Student Achievement Through Equity (SATE) department.

To plan the event, staff consulted with the School Council to better understand the needs of the school community. They identified priorities – including dental care, nutrition, parent/caregiver mental health and children’s programs – and invited organizations that provide free or affordable services in these areas.

More than 50 parents and caregivers attended the event, which featured presentations from a dozen community organizations, including Ottawa Public Health, the City of Ottawa, the National Arts Centre, the Parent Resource Centre and more. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, speak with service providers and connect with other families.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the resources provided. One parent shared, “It was incredibly resourceful, personally and professionally.”

The school community would like to thank Student Achievement Through Equity (SATE) Liaison Lily Wolderufael and Principal Kelly Haslam for organizing this impactful event!
