Courses

There are two options to choose from when you are scheduling for co-op:

• DCO3O -  “Creating Opportunities through Co-op”
• Virtual and In-Person: Cooperative Education linked to a related to a course you have already taken or are taking at the same time

In both courses, prior to going to your placement, you will spend time in class learning about health and safety in the workplace, as well as general preparation for going into the workforce.

Scheduling

Unsure of how you can manage all your credits as well as co-op? Co-op can actually count for 12 optional credits as well as 2 mandatory credits! Look below for example timetables for different focus areas.  Discuss options with your Guidance Counselor as early as possible to ensure that you are able to have timetable space available to meet your learning goals. Co-op can be scheduled beginning in Grade 10 and continue through to the end of Grade 12.

Summer co-op placements are a great way to access co-op if you have a lot of courses you need to take in day school, however you might want to consider taking another class in summer and scheduling co-operative education during the school year. Doing a semester long placement provides a greater opportunity to create workplace connections and fully experience what the job is like compared to a placement that is a few weeks long.
