In fall 2020, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board received confirmation of capital funding from the Ministry of Education for the construction of a new secondary school in the Riverside South area. The school will serve 1,516 grade 7 to 12 students. The school will be located at the southeast corner of Earl Armstrong Road and Spratt Road, in the Riverside South community. On January 31, 2023, the OCDSB Board of Trustees approved a timeline and consultation process to determine the program, attendance boundary, and opening grade structure for the new Riverside South secondary school, and make other associated changes.

Following the Ministry of Education announcement of capital funding in October 2020, the Riverside South Community will be welcoming a new secondary school with 1516 pupil places, along with two child care rooms with 39 licensed child care spaces. This will be the first secondary school for the OCDSB in the growing Riverside South community

The new Riverside South Secondary School will be located at the intersection of Spratt Road and Earl Armstrong Road. The opening date is scheduled for September 2025.

With the funding now approved, the OCDSB will be able to establish timelines for the building process.

Important Update: Contingency Plan

OCDSB has decided it is in the best interest of the students and staff to implement the contingency plan for Maplewood Secondary School. More information was shared with families in an email update on August 28th, 2024. The interim plan is as follows:
