AFFIRM Parent/Caregiver Information Program
The OCDSB will be hosting a virtual, 6-session evidence-informed group program designed to help parents and caregivers build confidence and skills to support their 2SLGBTQ+ youth.
Date: Fridays from January 24 to February 28, 2025
Time: 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
Through engaging discussions and activities, these sessions will help parents and caregivers explore and better understand 2SLGBTQ+ identities and the needs of their child. Participants will learn about the importance of affirming and compassionate parenting practices that support their child’s well-being. Topics include:
- 2SLGBTQ+ identities and experiences
- Understanding the impact of anti-2SLGBTQ+ attitudes and behaviors
- Supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth through the coming out process
- Compassionate caregiving
- Overcoming barriers and building hope through goal-setting
- Developing safe, affirming support networks, and more.

All who support 2SLGBTQ+ young people are welcome, including adoptive parents, kinship, chosen, and foster families.
Registration is required and spots are limited. Fill out this form to submit your expression of interest. If spots fill up for this session, you will be added to a waiting list for future sessions. All those registered will be invited to a 15 minute virtual meet with facilitators to answer any questions.
