About the Continuing Education department
The Continuing Education department at the OCDSB provides a wide range of learning opportunities for adults and students looking to expand their knowledge and skills. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of learners at all levels and stages of life, learning an international language, reinforcing language and learning skills to upgrading high school credits, earning a high school diploma and pursuing various pathways such as post-secondary education or employment.
We offer a variety of courses in areas such as Adults High School Credits, English as a Second Language (ESL), and International Languages (IILP), as well as a range of programs focused on vocational training, job readiness, and personal development. Our courses are taught by experienced and qualified instructors who are dedicated to helping our learners achieve their goals.

About Our Programs
Adaptive Learning
The Adaptive Learning Program is for adults with physical and developmental disabilities who want to prepare for independence, competitive employment or volunteer work in the community. Students participate in on-site work settings to gain job skills, in addition to transferable essential skills.

Adults Get Your High School Diploma
(Night School, Independent Study, Mature Student Evaluation, Prior Learning & Assessment, Co-operative Education, Summer School)
The Continuing Education Department offers different pathways to help individuals earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or to prepare for college or university entrance. In addition to Night School, other programs include Co-operative Education, Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR), Mature Student Evaluation (MSE), and Independent Study.

ESL and LINC
(English as a Second Language & Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)
The Continuing Education Department offers English as a Second Language (ESL) and Language Instruction to Newcomers to Canada (LINC) classes for adults. Classes are offered from pre-literacy to advanced levels, and include Advanced Communication, Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking, Workplace English, Academic Test Preparation, Preparation for Citizenship and more.

Homework Club
The Continuing Education Department, in partnership with day schools, offers a Homework Club program that is free for OCDSB students in Grades 7-12 looking to achieve greater success at school. This Homework Club program provides students with a supervised opportunity to complete, review, practice and receive support in a range of subject areas.

Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS)
The Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) Program is for adult learners that are looking for jobs but have little work experience, who are interested in developing the skills necessary to get a high school diploma to go on to college programs, or who have good listening and speaking skills but need some help with reading and writing.

Literacy Numeracy Community Support
Our Literacy/Numeracy Program provides students in Grades 7 - 12 with a supervised opportunity to complete, review, practice and organize their work in order to help them achieve greater success at school. Outdoor Education Centres and Programs
The OCDSB operates two Outdoor Education Centres; MacSkimming Outdoor Education Centre in Ottawa’s east end, and the Bill Mason Centre in the west. Both Centres provide high quality, hands-on outdoor programming that is designed and delivered to compliment classroom learning in many sections of the Ontario Curriculum. Each visiting group is introduced to the beauty of the natural world, and our place in it.

Summer School Programs
The Summer School Programs are offered for students currently in grades 6-8 (Elementary ESL, Language and Math reinforcement), grades 9-12 (Secondary ESL reinforcement and a variety of subject credit courses), as well as for adult learners working towards their high school diploma. Summer School programs are being offered in-person as well as virtually. Programming will run contingent on enrollment. Most programs are open to learners from all school boards.

Summer International Languages Program & French and Spanish Camps
The Summer International Language Classes cater to children in Kindergarten to Grade 8, fostering language proficiency and intercultural appreciation.
And the International Languages Summer Camps provide an engaging and fun-filled environment for students to enhance language skills and cultural understanding, with qualified language counselors leading a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including music explorations, educational games, crafts, workshops, and exciting field trips to museums and experiential learning sites.
