Indigenous Self Identification

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is committed to supporting Indigenous students by providing educational opportunities that honor their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. To achieve this, we encourage all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students to voluntarily self-identify.

Why Self-Identify?

In alignment with the Ontario Ministry of Education's First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework, the OCDSB aims to:

  • Enhance access to cultural programming.
  • Provide students with information about post-secondary pathways.
  • Increase school awareness of the diverse needs of Indigenous learners.
  • Implement actions that effectively address these needs to boost student achievement and well-being.

By self-identifying, you assist us in developing and implementing supportive programs tailored to Indigenous students. The data collected is securely stored and protected under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). Individual student data is not shared or communicated unless specifically provided for in legislation or requested by the individual or their caregiver.
