The OCDSB is committed to helping every student develop strong math skills, which are essential for their future success. Our skilled educators provide inclusive and responsive math instruction to help every student develop the knowledge and problem-solving skills they need to thrive in school, in the workplace, and in their daily lives.
To support this goal, we’ve developed a Math Achievement Action Plan in line with the Ministry of Education’s 2023 Math Strategy. This strategy focuses on improving student success in math and guides school boards to concentrate on three key areas:
- Making sure the math curriculum is taught consistently across all schools
- Providing ongoing training for teachers to strengthen their math knowledge
- Ensuring that math tasks and supports meet the individual needs of each student
Highlights of the Math Achievement Action Plan:
We ensure that the math curriculum is well understood and followed consistently from grade to grade, including the updated elementary (2020) and Grade 9 (2021) curricula. Educators use effective teaching and assessment strategies to help students build on key math skills as they progress through the grades.
Benefits for Your Child: Your child learns math using the latest curriculum, which is designed to strengthen their skills. Educators use current resources and proven strategies to support your child’s understanding and help them solve real-world problems.
We provide ongoing training to help educators strengthen their math knowledge and teaching skills.
Benefits for Your Child: Strengthening educators' math knowledge leads to better math instruction, more effective teaching strategies and more tailored support for your child. This helps your child build confidence in their math skills and helps to improve academic results.
Our goal is to offer high-quality, equitable and inclusive math instruction that meets the diverse needs, abilities and lived experiences of all learners. By understanding each child’s math needs, we develop relevant math tasks and responsive interventions to help them succeed.
Benefits for Your Child: This approach can increase your child’s motivation and engagement, helping them build confidence, overcome challenges and enhance their learning.
