Arts at the OCDSB

There are many opportunities for students to get involved in the Arts, be it drama, music, dance, photography, creative writing, mixed media, and more. Arts opportunities are not only flourishing in our schools, but also in the greater community.

OCDSB Secondary Schools offer several arts courses for credit such as music (including band or orchestra), drama, visual art or in some cases dance. Musicals, jazz band or art clubs may be offered as extracurricular activities.

For students who want to specialize in one art form, Canterbury High School's Arts Program allows students to specialize in: Dance, Drama, Music (Winds, Strings or Vocals), Literary Arts or Visual Art through a structured pathway of required and elective courses. Canterbury High School also offers an Arts & Culture and a Business Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM).

Canterbury High School Arts Program

Canterbury High School is proud to offer a nationally recognized Arts Program for students with a strong interest and ability in the arts. The program offers five arts pathways in which students can specialize in the art form of their choice. The five arts programs are: Dance, Drama, Music, Literary Arts and Visual Arts. The program allows students to delve deeper into their chosen art form while also fulfilling all graduation requirements. Graduating from an arts specialty program still allows students to chose any post-secondary pathway (arts or non-arts). Visit the Arts Canterbury Website to get more information on entrance criteria, auditions and how to apply.
