Prepare yourself for a wide variety of culinary careers through an unforgettable culinary experience at Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School. You will work and learn in a commercial kitchen using industry-standard equipment and gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This program offers several industry certifications: Safe Food Handlers, Customer Service, WHIMIS, First Aid/CPR and Smart Serve. Students will also receive ICE training (Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship).

The Hospitality SHSM at Ottawa Technical Secondary School focuses on both the Culinary Arts and Professional Baking. Students will acquire hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen, preparing meals for the school cafeteria fully run by the SHSM Hospitality & Tourism program, catering and special events. Students will earn industry recognized certifications such as First Aid, WHMIS, Safe Food Handling, Service Excellence and others. Opportunities will be offered for experiential learning such as field trips, job shadowing, as well as inviting guest speakers from the industry to share some of their knowledge and experience in this exciting and growing industry.

The Hospitality and Culinary Arts SHSM at Adult High School offers an exciting opportunity for students to work and learn in a commercial kitchen setting under the guidance of a Red Seal Chef. Gain valuable practical knowledge and experience preparing meals for the cafeteria, catering events, experience industry-related field trips and hosting guest speakers with experience in this growing sector. Complete industry-recognized certifications such as Safe Food Handling, Smart Serve, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS and more, creating a strong foundation for students moving on to the workforce, college, university or apprenticeship pathways.

Through an examination of the Industry, students learn to identify the benefits of the Tourism and Travel sectors while focusing on minimizing cultural and economic conflicts to achieve sustainable natural and human systems. Through a series of issues-based investigations and case studies highlighting the complexity of the Industries, past and present patterns and trends are analyzed in order to make predictions about the opportunities and possibilities. This course includes an examination of the local community as an excellent source of information about Hospitality and Tourism activities and businesses.
