Bonjour to Blooket: French Learning Reimagined

Each year, John Young Elementary School transforms language learning into an exciting game with the annual Core French Blooket Challenge. Students race against the clock and their classmates while testing their knowledge of French vocabulary, grammar and cultural facts.
This highly anticipated tradition provides John Young students with a chance to showcase their hard work and take pride in their growing French language skills. Using the interactive quiz platform Blooket, students explore everyday vocabulary and more complex sentence structures in a fun, interactive format.
“We learned many French rules and grammar in the Blooket challenge. We learned and memorized many things like etre, avoir, le, la, les, un, une, des. These are very important things that we will need in life to help us to talk with others. I believe this is a great way for kids to learn French because it makes it exciting for kids to learn.” – Saeeb
The challenge helps students to review what they’ve learned throughout the year, reinforcing their language skills and preparing them for future French learning. It also fosters a sense of camaraderie as students cheer each other on, celebrating their progress as a class and individually.
“French was one of my favorite subjects this year! At the beginning of the year, Mr. Ajay taught me basic French that has really improved my French skills over the last 10 months! The Blooket Challenge tested my skills from the last 10 months. It was great! It went all the way back to the beginning of the year when we were just learning about verbs!” – Alibeth
At the end of last year’s competition, every student received a participation certificate, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Many students proudly collect these certificates year after year, a reminder of their French language journey at John Young.
“The Blooket challenge was very entertaining! I had an amazing time and all that we learned this year and last year helped me a lot. Like Etre, Avoir, Faire, masculine and feminine. It was pretty competitive but I was also able to bond with friends and still learn about things in French!” – Carla
With the next Blooket Challenge just a few months away, students are already working hard to prepare for the competition. The Blooket Challenge proves that learning a language can be as exciting as it is educational. It's a testament to the power of innovative teaching methods and the students' dedication to learning.
